As a part of ourprogram at the MTI, the second year
students spent three months in the mountains of Chihuahua, Mexico,
where the Tarahumara ethnic group live.
They call themselves Raramuri, which means

run on foot.

The Tarahumara mountains are 6,000 to 9,000 feet, above sea
level, and have deep canyons. The different groups live scattered in
farmsteads and villages.

Our students climbed the mountains, walking between 4 to 8
hrs, to reach the villages. Many times they carried the sick people, bringing
them to the mission at the foot of the mountain “Tarahumara Mission
Hospital” to be cared
for. Many children suffer from
malnutrition and die because they cannot get to the mission and doctors do not go
to their villages.

Each of the students have testimonies, of what God did there
in their lives, and how God used them to bring hope, love, smiles.Janeth described
how she and Irma and a doctor and nurse arrived to this elderly couple. The house was in a very bad condition, the bed
where Roberta, the elderly lady, slept had only the springs and a few blankets.
And because she didn’t have help and can’t
walk, she had to do all her personal hygiene right there.

Janeth ministering to the Raramuri

Janeth said “As I entered into the room
I was shocked to realize the way these people were living. These could have
been my grandparents! How could human
beings live in this condition? So I prayed
for God to give me the grace and we rolled our sleeves and started to clean the
room. We washed their clothes and we bathed
them. As I was bathing Roberta, it was as
if I was washing the feet of Jesus. The love of God came over me like
waves from Him to me and from me to Roberta. There was the grace, and His love
was shed upon our hearts as we were preaching the gospel with our own
hands. I would not exchange this experience for anything in the
world”
